How to Choose Marketing Tools as an Empath
Today’s Musings on Marketing and Magic is the third blog post of a 4-part series on “Creating and Sustaining Marketing Presence as an Empath”. In this post I focus on how to choose marketing tools as an empath, sensitive, intuitive or introvert entrepreneur.
How to choose marketing tools that are right for you
Choosing the right kind of marketing tool or tools is especially important as an empath or sensitive. Some entrepreneurs can push themselves for long periods of time to work with tools that are not their natural “habitat”, but that will backfire very quickly as an empath as we need to feel that we can stand behind the tool or technique that we are using. Any whiff of having to force ourselves to use it and we move away from it. We need to feel in alignment within ourselves to use any marketing tool authentically.
There are different stages in marketing to build connections with potential clients until they take the big leap and make a purchase. For now, I will concentrate on the first step, which is creating visibility by attracting attention to your business, and, if you are a solo-preneur that actually means attracting attention to YOU.
How do you know if the marketing tool or technique is right for you?
So, how do you know if the marketing tool or technique is right for you? I would start by looking at what you are naturally drawn to, whether it is writing, public speaking, networking, social media, search engine optimization etc. Choose the tool that you feel intuitively is most resonating with you and then research what the first step will be to get started with it. I always remind myself of the Chinese proverb: “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step” when I get frustrated with this process – don’t expect to have it all figured out immediately. It is a discovery process to learn best practices for the chosen marketing tool or technique and how you can make it your own.
The key to success in creating marketing presence is consistency
Lastly, the absolute key to success in creating marketing presence is consistency! Way too often I see solo-preneurs start out with a marketing technique and then quickly abandon it if they don’t see immediate success and move on to something else or drop marketing activities altogether until they build up the courage to try again. A marketing rule of thumb is that it takes 3 to 6 months for a technique to make a real impact. Which means, as you are making a decision on what tool to use, one of the main criteria then is the question of “can I commit to using this tool consistently for the next 6 months to determine whether it works for me?”
What marketing tool resonates the strongest with you?
In the final post of this series on “Creating and Sustaining Marketing Presence as an Empath”, I talk more about sustaining your marketing presence. You can read part 1 on marketing visibility here and part 2 on the vulnerability of standing out here.
Until then, be magical!
